There is a growing concern in Wisconsin and many states regarding the impact of wake enhanced boats on lakes, rivers and shorelines. The Silver Lake Management District supports a fair and equitable state wide regulation for the use of wake boats in Wisconsin waters.

Last year a small group was formed to inform and influence the Wisconsin legislature relative to future legislation that will minimize the impact of these boats on Wisconsin’s glacial lakes.

The SLMD was approached last year to join this coalition. The Board considered the request and decided that the SLMD should join as we could possibly impact the formulation of any proposed legislation. The coalition began with 5 members last year and has grown to over 60. The goal is to help inform legislators and influence the legislative process.

There is a growing amount of documentation that shows that wake enhanced boating can have negative impacts on many lakes in Wisconsin like Silver. The coalition’s goal is to influence the legislative process to ensure any laws enacted are favorable to Wisconsin lakes, rivers and their users.

Below is a document from the Coalition giving some insight to their efforts. We will publish these as we get them.Below that is a link to an article about a study done in Connecticut.
